Managing expectations for SEO

June 9, 2010 // Posted in Search Engine Marketing  |  Comments Off

One of the most valuable things that we can do when performing SEO services for our clients is explaining the timeline for seeing quality results. Describing all the details of what SEO actually entails can be tedious work. It is, however, a proven method for allowing the client to get comfortable with the amount of work required and why results take time.

Most clients don’t know much about the services we perform. Why should they? They’ve got their own industry to worry about. Empowering them with the in’s and out’s of SEO will reduce the need for regular phone calls requesting explanations which can eat into valuable, billable hours.

A little bit of time at the outset can save a lot of time down the line. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to keep your sanity while giving your clients the low down on the reason they’re spending all that money on you each month.

SEO Articles make a surge

February 9, 2010 // Posted in Search Engine Marketing  |  Comments Off

The face of search engine optimization is constantly changing. This is a must as the criteria for strong ranking consistantly fluxuates. We all want the results we get from a search to be as accurate as possible, right? This is the ultimate goal of all search engines- provide the best information to the searcher.

A practice that is gaining popularity lately in the quest for global internet awareness is the use of full, industry articles which contain links back to the related site in the title or the body of the article. This is being used in lieu of traditional link exchange programs in many cases.

The advantage here is the more substantial amount of pertinent information that surrounds that link we all long for. This gives the search engines more spider food related to the site being linked to. It also indicates to the search engine that if you make the effort to include an entire article about a site related to yours it most likely has relevance and is of solid use to your visitors, and in the end, that is extremely important.

Pay close attention to the content delivered by your competition. Why would these sites rank well for the desired keyword in relation to the body content? How clean is the code in their site? How many images have they chosen to use? These are just a few of the many questions you can ask of  each and every site in order to assemble a SEO goal for your website.

Selective SEO goals

While we’d all like to rank as high as possible for  that “golden challis” of keyword(s), it is often times not worth the price we pay. This becomes more relevant the broader the  keyword or phrase is.  The amount of online traffic searching for that keyword may be very high however this doesn’t guarantee click-thru’s or conversions for that term. If you focus your attention and budget on second tier keywords, your SEO campaign and overall internet marketing strategy has a much higher chance of being successful.

Drive more traffic to your site with the aggregate of the trailing keywords and your conversions will certainly rise. The beauty of this approach is that often times it’s easier to rank well for these terms. End result is your cost is less and your ROI is stronger.

No matter what keyword or keyword phrase you are attempting to rank well for in your SEO campaign, the golden rule is patience, persistance and content. Be sure you have content on your site that is directly related to the keyword you’re working on, keep in mind that when you halt your efforts to boost your rankings for that keyword your competition most likely is continuing and give yourself a realistic time frame within which you will begin to see results.
